Summary
Former military range in the Sokolac municipality. Preliminary testing of soil, subsoil and groundwater found elevated copper and some other metals in the soil, along with some pesticide residues, while the groundwater sample was clean. The general conclusion of the report is that the location requires further detailed analysis.
Assessment findings
Findings of concern
- Elevated copper was found in the soil, at a level indicating that cleanup is needed.
- Several other metals and some pesticide residues were found above the level at which soil is no longer considered clean.
- Because of the area's karst geology, water — and any contamination — can move quickly underground.
Positive findings
- The groundwater sample met the highest quality class on all measured parameters.
- Pollutants associated with oil, combustion, industrial solvents and industrial oils were all within limits.
